How to Prepare Your Property for a Photo Shoot

Professional photography does a lot of the heavy lifting, but the best results start before the camera comes out. A little preparation helps a property look its absolute best — and keeps the shoot running smoothly. Here’s a simple checklist.

Style and declutter

  • Clear benchtops, tables and floors of everyday clutter
  • Tidy and stage living areas, bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Open blinds and curtains to let in natural light
  • Tidy gardens, lawns and outdoor entertaining areas

The little details

  • Turn on lamps and check that globes are working
  • Hide bins, hoses, cords and pet items
  • Remove cars from the driveway and street frontage where possible
  • Turn off computer and TV screens

A quick word on privacy

Before the shoot, it’s worth putting away personal photographs, sensitive documents and valuables. If the property is tenanted or occupied, make sure occupants have been given notice, and let us know about any rooms you’d prefer we don’t photograph.

Who needs to be there

We just need access and a property that’s ready to shoot — you don’t need to follow us around. If anything special needs highlighting (or avoiding), a quick note beforehand is all it takes.
